WORLD WE IMAGINE PART 1

The first step to making the world a better place is empathy. Empathy is the solution to every global problem that you look at. Children are taught to be creative by incorporating art, music, dancing, etc. through their elementary curriculum. However, these creative outlets are hindered in the later half of one's education. Without realizing it you are put into a box that prioritizes just STEM, and you are looked down upon for thinking otherwise, similarly, with empathy. The values of "sharing is caring" are implemented in the early stages of life very briefly but are not built upon through one's life to instill it as a habit. By creating a required curriculum for elementary, middle, and high school students that centers around the idea of how to express empathy in everyday interactions, how to be cognizant of others' feelings and thoughts, and co-create solutions, the biggest issues and conflicts of the world could be solved.

This obviously is a huge entrepreneurial idea that needs to be developed. The first step is to create a strong curriculum. This would involve talking to psychologists and research analysts who understand the gap between human action and empathy and see what the exact issue we are trying to fix is. Once we know exactly what aspect of empathy we need to target, we would talk to a psychologist to see how we can evoke this feeling through a curriculum and exercises. Additionally, we would have to figure out how to develop the curriculum so it grows with the students through their years in school. Then we would need to develop an interface to put this curriculum on and be able to talk to the government to instill this as a mandatory course in all public schools. Maybe we start at a district level as a test, and it can grow and expand to the county, state, nation, etc.

This is a basic plan right now, but I truly believe instilling empathy as a habit through the curriculum is what humanity needs to be kinder to each other in this day and age.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Eshayna. You did a great job of explaining the importance of empathy and how we can make it more relevant in schools. I do agree this this would be a huge undertaking but I think that the main concept of this is a great idea. In my experience, we learn empathy from others and from experiences. If we were able to teach young kids this from a young age it would be a much better world. Great work!

  2. Hi Eshayna, thank you so much for sharing. I highly agree with you that the first step is having empathy for others.I do agree that ensuring that empathy is taught and more relevant in schools, not just taught in the early stages in education. I never really thought about it in that way so thank you for making me realize that. I love the concept of your idea and if we could start at a young age and ensure that we are able to still foster that growth during the latter stages of education, I think we'd be off to a great start.

  3. Hi Eshayna,
Great post! I love how you bring the topic so such toxic tendencies. Individuals are simply focused on statistics and rank. There is constant sense of competition and focus on oneself. This is creating a devastating division in society. How are individuals who do not have access to resources such as tutoring, schooling, etc, able to compare? It is important to emphasize what bring people to together. Use your platform to highlight the vulnerabilities and difficulties that form humanity.
